25 years ago a revolution hit the airwaves. Sports entertainment would forever change, as a new benchmark for excellence began. This benchmark, called Wrestlemania, would become the SuperBowl of professional wrestling. It transcended wrestling itself, as stras from all over the entertainment spectrum come together to celebrate this pinnacle of excellence. This year, WM boasted a lineup that they were sure would deliver. Did this PPV flop, or was it one of the best Wrestlemanias of all time? let’s go match by match.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match – Winner CM Punk

They open the show with MITB once again, and it rarely disappoints. Shelton Benjamin is an absolute phenom. Some of the moves he does with ladders is ridiculous. Kofi Kingston also had a great showing, pulling off some aerial highlights. In the end, CM Punk won for the second year in a row. I thought it was stupid to make him Mr MITB again. The fans hate to see a back to back MITB champ. Its just whack, no shots @ CM Punk. A dude like Shelton, whose been in FOUR of these matches should’ve got the nod. Even a Kane or MVP or hello.. CHRISTIAN! This match was hot until the ending. 4/5

25 Diva Battle Royal – Winner Santina(:-) Marella

This was the bathroom break portion of the show. Well Kid Rocks performance definitely. The divas put on a cool show, with the swerve at the end being Satino Marella, dressed in drag, winning the battle royal and being crowned “Miss Wrestlemania” His character is hilarious, so I can tolerate that a-hole move to make him win. 3.5/5

Chris Jericho def. The legends team (Rowdy Roddy piper, Superfly Jimmy Snuka, and Ricky Steamboat)

This match was the surprise of the night. I expected this to be a squash match, with minimal interaction by the legends. Richy Steamboat looked like a current superstar in the ring. He hit all his trademark moves clean! The man is 50+, I thought I was watching Starrcade 90 or something! His skill impressed me, but Jericho was victorious. of course we got the run-in by Mickey Rourke where he knocked Jericho out. Not bad at all. 3.5/5

Extreme rules match: Matt Hardy Def. Jeff Hardy

This match flopped build-up wise because after Jeff Lost the WWE title, it became a moot point. No one does extreme quite like the Hardy’s and they didn’t disappoint. Jeff Hardy is a nut, he double decked tables, placed Matt on the bottom table, and did a cross body to the top to come crashing through. I’m convinced hes the ultimate stuntman. Matt was the winner hitting Jeff with a vicious twist of fate with Jeff’s neck in a chair. It was crazy! I just wish I cared about the match more. 3.5/5

Intercontinental Title Match – Rey Mysterio def JBL

I saw this one coming. VERY predictable. JBL boasts about this being a defining moment in Wrestlemania. He says he’ll have the most decisive victory ever. Surprise surprise. 21 seconds after the bell rang, he loses the IC title and subsequently “quits” wrestling.  Snoozer and predictable! 1/5

Undertaker def Shawn Michaels – Streak Alive 17-0

Ladies and gentleman, THIS match saved Wrestlemania! One of the greatest matches I’ve ever witnessed! The amount of twists and turns was incredible. Kicking out of Tombstones, last Rides, Sweet Chin Music, Hells Gates, Figure Fours, etc. Multiple pins. Extreme moves. One move where Taker jumps over the top rope and hits a cameraman was classic! Definitely the best  match in the Taker streak series, and one of the best WM matches ever. These two showed why they’re two of the greatest ever and know how to perform on the grandest stage.  THIS should’ve been the finale! 5/5

Edge vs Big Show Vs Cena – Cena new World champ

The champ is here (I guess). This title match meant nothing to me. I’ve seen these guys wrestle each other for years. This was nothing new. Cena hits the 5 moves of doom, near pins etc. Cena is officially the worlds strongest man. He had Big Show and Edge on his shoulders to do the “Throwback” (the F U). Other than that, lame match 2.5/5

WWE Title Match HHH def Randy Orton

This was a disappointment. For all the buildup, all the lies, deceit, and suffering on both parts, this match was a snoozer. Nothing against HHH or Orton, but I wasn’t interested. These are 2 of my favorite superstars also, so it was a huge letdown. They should’ve made this Hell in a Cell or No DQ, for the type of feud they had. It just seemed like a regular match, nothing the magnitude of WrestleMania. The feud deserved a more exciting match. They still work well together and show flashes of greatness. Either was, I wasn’t interested. 3/5

OVERALL:

Honestly, this was an average show. HBK/Taker saved this from being a normal ppv which happens to be Wrestlemania! Too many boring matches and Stupid finished. One of the hottest matches they had advertised, the unification Tag Title matches with the Colons vs Miz and Morrison, they didnt even AIR! I wanted to see that match too!! They’re saving it for the WM dvd, which was DUMB. Those two tag teams put on a great show, and WM needed that bad!

Shouout to the greatest superstar in WWE history, Stone Cold Steve Austin, who was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame. This dude defined a generation, who spat in the face of political correctness. His career defined by the law of Austin 3:16, made an impression on millions of fans. Great wrestler, great personality. One of the best. SALUTE!!

I had fun, not so much for the wrestling, but for the event. Its still the pinnacle of sports entertainment, but if i had my eyes closed, I’d say this was a normal PPV. I’m looking fwd to the WWE draft lottery. This one should be interesting!

Overall: 3/5
